Colo-X Description

The Dutch colocation market is primarily based around Amsterdam but facilities do exist outside of the capital.  In the Dutch capital the large pan-European colocation operators are all available: Telecity, Interxion (headquartered in Amsterdam) and Equinix are all here and also now a growing list of new facilities and operators both within Amsterdam and nearby offering choice to the big companies.  Evoswitch in particular have massive ambitions for their facility in Haarlem, about 12 miles West of Amsterdam city centre.  Wholesale capacity is offered from Global Switch (surely a new facility now needed?) and Digital Realty.  Finally Terremark, now part of Verizon, are due to enter the market in 2011, leasing capacity in a new Digital Realty site on Schipol, Amsterdam's international airport.

Choosing a colocation facility or operator can be quite tricky in Amsterdam as unlike other European colocation markets there is no obvious hub and thus all facilities offer pretty similar connectivity options.  Ams-ix, the local Internet exchange (who seem to be in constant argument with LINX in London as to which is the largest and most important Internet peering point in Europe)  is clearly one of the key attractions of this market and is  available in 7 data centres with further access from other sites through the Ams-ix partner programme.
