Colo-X Analysis

Virtus is the specialist data centre arm of a well established private real estate company.  Virtus are aiming at the high quality end of the market in terms of fit out and standards but in much smaller scale than the larger wholesale opeators who typically look at 10,000 sq ft and above, whereas Virtus are as small as 300kW across 2000 sq ft, which is their entry point.   The solution is a real estate package, so a lease agreement ranging from 5 to 10 years.   As such the Virtus offering is fairly unique amongst the “new entrants” appearing in the market today who are aiming more for the retail end of the market with colocation or managed services.  Crucially, Virtus have announced fund raising is complete and the first hall is now let to a managed services provider with construction taking place for delivery in Q1 2011, so we can expect to be able to offer retail products as small as a single cabinet in due course.

Facility Description

The Virtus Enfield facility can offer 27,000 sq ft of net tech across two floors and 6 self contained data centre halls, ranging in size from 2000 sq ft up to 5500 sq ft or 300kW up to 700kWm though there is flexibility to combine or sub-divide halls .

8MVA is connected via two separate power feeds and VirginMedia are contracted to provide diverse rings to Telehouse Metro and Telehouse East in central London but as a carrier neutral site other networks can be accessed.
