Colo-X analysis

The Amito Reading data centre is a high-quality new colocation facility just off the M4. It is backed by the former Rapidswitch team (6000 dedicated servers sold to Iomart in 2009), so can offer excellent on-site technical support. This makes for the attractive proposition of a good-quality data centre available at highly competitive rates, backed by good enough on-site support to avoid the need for client site visits.  Unlimited onsite support is part of the Amito proposition.

Technically the facility benefits from dual and diverse 11kV power feeds supplying 2N to each cabinet, and is designed to provide 1.5kW per metre. Mid-power densities of up to 7kW per cabinet can be easily achieved, with 16Amps, 3.5kW as standard. Amito Reading is ISO27001 certified and PCI DSS compliant. This is now the largest colocation facility in Reading.

The Amito network offers direct breakout to Equinix LD5 and Telehouse North over their own self-lit dark fibre ring, sub 1ms latency to the Equinix Slough campus for example (LD4, 5, 6, 7 and 10)

Facility description

The Amito Reading data centre is located on a quiet site a few minutes from Junction 11 on the M4. This is to the south of central Reading, and about 20 miles west of Slough or 40 miles from central London.

The facility is a two-floor industrial building located on a quiet business park with only one other client. The site is secured behind dedicated fencing and has 24/7 on-site security and support.

There are four data halls, two of which are sold to individual customers and the balance available for colocation on a per-rack or even part-rack basis. Dedicated quarter rack and half rack units are available. In general there is a 2N power distribution to each cabinet.  The Amito colocation package includes unlimited onsite support, allowing clients to ship all new hardware for installation or even smaller tasks such as memory upgrades, part failure handling etc
