Pulsant Reading South SE-3 is the more impressive of the two Pulsant Reading data centres and was originally opened by Amito in 2013. Amito were acquired by Pulsant in 2022.

At 3MW or 800 racks of capacity it is one of the larger of Pulsant’s 12 UK data centres, with both Pulsant South London and Pulsant Edinburgh of similar size.

Technically the data centre benefits from dual and diverse 11kV power feeds supplying 2N to each cabinet and is designed to provide 1.5kW per metre. Mid-power densities of up to 7kW per cabinet can be easily achieved, with 16Amps, 3.5kW as standard or higher possible with additional power feeds.  Connectivity includes a dark fibre ring through the Equinix Slough campus to Telehouse Docklands.

Pulsant Reading South SE-3 facility description

The Pulsant Reading South data centre is located on a small business park with only one other tenant, a few minutes from Junction 11 on the M4. The facility is a two-floor industrial building,  secured behind dedicated fencing and has 24/7 on-site security and support.

There are four data halls, two of which are sold to individual customers and the balance of two data halls of 200 racks each is available for colocation on a per-rack or even part-rack basis, with dedicated quarter rack and half rack units available. In general, there is a 2N power distribution to each cabinet.

After a string of acquisitions, including Amito in 2022, Pulsant now operate 12 data centres across the UK, ranging in size from 200kW to nearly 4MW and providing some 20MW of capacity in total. The company is now making much of their focus on “edge” colocation.
