Atlas Edge, Cornelius House, Gelderd Close, Leeds, LS12 6DS
Colo-X analysis
The Atlas Edge Leeds data centre is a high quality, Tier 3 standard ‘edge’ colocation facility benefitting from a £13m investment from the new owners. The site has been operational since the early 2000s, so offers a strong carrier list.
All-inclusive colocation packages offering colo (quarter, half and full racks), network and great on-site support are available from long-standing Colo-X partners. Larger users can now deal directly with Atlas Edge.
This is the first site from Atlas Edge to be listed on the Colo-X data centre database. Atlas Edge is a new operator formed as a joint venture between Virgin Media-owner Liberty Global and infrastructure investment fund Digital Bridge. Atlas Edge has made several other acquisitions, especially in Germany. They offer a range of smaller ‘edge-focussed’ data centres across Europe as well as some larger, more hyperscale-focussed sites in some locations.
Atlas Edge Leeds facility description
The building was originally a Bank of England gold bullion vault before being taken over for telecom and data centre use at the height of the dot-com boom by former Internet hosting business Pipex Communications.
The facility was then completely rebuilt in 2007 for British Telecom, who were hosting a large public sector customer. BT were the sole tenant for this 10-year contract. Once that ended, the site was once again offered for multi-tenant colocation. It operated under the Hardy Fisher name prior to its acquisition by Atlas Edge in 2022.
Key features of the upgrade works include a second and fully diverse incoming power feed at 11kV with 3.4MW currently available, further generators to upgrade to n+n, separate UPS rooms, enhanced security fencing, and 24/7 on-site security.
The data centre now offers 180 rack footprints across the ground floor data hall in eight distinct ‘hot aisle’ contained pods. 3-phase power per rack can deliver high densities if required. Carrier list includes nine on-site networks (including Zayo, Colt and EXA), reflecting the longevity of the site.
Colo-X clients can opt for fully inclusive colocation packages starting from quarter racks. Larger deployments deal directly with Atlas Edge. Colo-X can advise on costs and best options for each client.
