Colo-X analysis
The Redcentric Harrogate data centre first opened in the dot-com boom of the late ’90s as part of InTechnology, with the site also acting as the company headquarters. Redcentric acquired InTechnology for £65m in November 2013 and the company is now a managed service provider offering network, unified communications, cloud and general ICT services with a growing focus on the public sector and in particular health, where the company is an approved HSCN vendor (Health and Social Care Network).
Following the transformative acquisitions of Sungard Availability Services and 4D Data Centres in summer of 2022 Redcentric closed this site January 2024, moving clients to the nearby Elland data centre that they had acquired. Redcentric Harrogate facility description
The data centre sits within the Redcentric’s headquarters building and offers 450 racks across 25,000 sq ft of space, with a major refurbishment occuring in 2013 taking the site up to Tier 3 standards. It acts as a core network node for Redcentric as well as housing the companies own customer facing infrastructure.
Given the overall age of the facility average rack power density is fairly light at 3kW per rack but can go as high as 8kW in certain high density areas.
Redcentric turns over £90m and employs 400 staff of whom about 1/3rd are based in India. The company also operates a similar size data centre in Reading and bought the former CityLifeline data centre in the City in 2016, a long established small network ecosystem and largest of their three UK data centres. Customer references include both enterprise clients such as Hays or PizzaExpress as well as public sector, especially healthcare sector such as Kings College Hospital NHS Trust.
