Colo-X analysis

CyrusOne LONII (or LON2) was originally opened by Infinity Data Centres in 2012 as a two storey, wholesale data centre, designed to be sold to just a few or even a single large occupier. At the time of opening Infinity had leased half the site, the ground floor of 33,000 sq ft or 4MW of IT load to Cable and Wireless, who in turn were acquired by Vodafone. The site is located about 8 miles east of the data centre campus on the Slough Trading Estate.

Wholesale data centre provider Zenium acquired the site in 2017, just prior to their own acquisition by CyrusOne in 2018.  Zenium developed the balance of capacity available to provide a further 9MW which we would expect to be leased to a single tenant under a long term contract.

CyrusOne now own and operate five London data centres, of which four are on the Slough Trading Estate and this one in Hayes (acquired from Infinity in 2015), along with a legacy suite in the DRT Woking site.  In total CyrusOne provide some 67MW of capacity in the UK market. They are very much a wholesale data centre operator, selling large scale solutions to the largest buyers under long term contracts or leases.

Retail colocation users, taking part-racks, racks or caged areas should consider other facilities in Hayes or the nearby Slough Trading Estate – contact Colo-X for the best nearby options.

CyrusOne LON2 facility description

Originally opened by Infinity Data Centres to offer 60, 000 sq ft of net technical capacity over two floors, with the ground floor leased to Cable and Wireless.  Zenium then increased the site’s overall capacity following their purchase in 2017 to provide a further 9MW, taking total capacity up to 14MW.

CyrusOne are an established data centre operator with over 50 facilities worldwide. As such we should expect a high standard of design and build to at least Tier 3 standard.

CyrusOne acquired UK based Zenium Data Centres in 2018 for USD$442m, before themselves being “taken private” for USD$15bn in March 2022 by KKR and GIP. Interestingly they appointed former MD of Equinix Europe Eric Schwartz as CEO in September 2022.
