Digital Realty’s Crawley Unit 1 was the first data centre on a 16 acre campus that can offer up to 72MVA of utility power, delivered via 132kV grid connections. Unit1 offers a total of 70,000 sq ft of data floor over four halls and 12MW of IT load. It was first opened in 2015 and fully let to managed hosting provider Rackspace, known as Rackspace LON5.
In the UK DRT run 14 data centres located in the City (former Interxion sites), Docklands and around the M25, with a mixture of retail colocation sites in central London, multi-tenant data centres and some leased on a long term basis to single tenant occupiers such as in this campus. Digital Realty Crawley Unit 1 facility description
The Digital Realty Crawley data centre campus is located on the Manor Royal Industrial Estate, situated between Crawley town centre to the south and London’s Gatwick airport to the north.
Digital Realty are one of the largest data centre operators in the world with a market valuation of USD$30bn. DR has over 4,000 customers and runs 300 data centres, providing some 2,000MW of IT load of which 600MW or around 30% is in Europe.
Digital Realty’s European footprint was enhanced by the acquisition of 8 data centres from Equinix in 2016 (following Equinix’s takeover of Telecity) and the more significant $8bn acquisition of Interxion in 2019.
