Colo-X analysis

Infinity’s Romford data centre is one of the few data centres located east of London Docklands. It is therefore well placed for financial institutions based in Canary Wharf or the City. IT service provider Computacenter have built their 7,500 sq ft suite to an officially certified Tier 4 design standard, one of the only such certified sites in the UK. This is the sort of quality demanded by the institutions this location would suit. Site security is a focus, with ISO 270001:2005 accreditation.

With Infinity having sold their Slough data centre to Virtus (now Virtus LON4) and their Stockley Park site to Zenium (in turn acquired by US CyrusOne in December 2017), the long-term direction for Infinity Romford appeared uncertain, so the June 2022 announcement that this site and the adjacent plot of land for Romford South have been acquired by Green Mountain ended several years of uncertainty.  Combined, both sites could offer up to 40MW.

Colocation rack space is available here via existing tenants.

Infinity Romford facility description

Infinity Romford is a massive warehouse building able to offer around 350,000 sq ft of gross space and 130,000 sq ft of net technical capacity. 28MVA is available via dual 33kV power feeds. The Infinity model was to build out halls to each client’s specification, so standards vary.

As of September 2013 we expect the balance of the site, some 30,000 sq ft, to be built speculatively, i.e. without a signed tenant. This will be sold on the basis of either retail colocation, pods of 60 racks, or as dedicated suites of around 500 sq m each.

The largest tenants on site are believed to be Verizon and RBS. Other tenants include Computacenter, who have taken 7,500 sq ft and who have built-out to an officially certified Tier 4 design standard.

As a further expansion option, Romford South is available on the opposite side of the road from the existing data centre.

Green Mountain are a Norwegian based data centre provider, wholly owned by a listed Israeli real estate fund, Azrieli Group. They operate 3 sites in southern Norway, one of which is an enormous former NATO ammunition bunker, but all 3 are closely tied to local hydro-electric power schemes and can offer capacity ranging from 25 to 75MW.
