iomart, Spectrum House, Clivemont Road, Maidenhead, SL6 7BU
Colo-X analysis
iomart took over this Maidenhead data centre through their acquisition of hosting provider Rapidswitch in May 2009. Spectrum House was originally built and opened by Rapidswitch in July 2007, so it was focused on their own in-house hosting customers.
However, since the expansion (to 1,300 sq m) and redundancy upgrade completed in March 2011, the site has been able to accommodate colocation clients. It is of course well suited to anyone looking for data centre services in the Berkshire or Maidenhead areas, with power options of 8, 16 or 32Amps per cabinet.
The presence of Rapidswitch ensures cheap bandwidth on-site and 24/7 support, but not a huge range of other carriers to choose from.
iomart plc Maidenhead facility description
Phase 2 expansion of Spectrum House was completed in March 2011. This added 650 sq m of new data centre space or 300 footprints, and so doubled the site’s total capacity to 1300 sq m. In June 2014 capacity was doubled again to nearly 3,000 sq m across nine data halls.
The facility consists of four data halls in a single-storey light industrial building with a 2.5MVA power feed.
