Colo-X analysis

Whilst undergoing a number of changes of ownership in the 2013-2017 period (Alpahdex, Iracks) IP House now appears to be under more stable ownership, benefitting from a strengthened management team and significant recent investment to provide up to 500 racks. As a result it is now a viable and good value option for smaller clients wanting access to a Docklands based data centre, but not needing direct cross-connects that the nearby but more costly ecosystems such as Telehouse can offer.

Solutions start from 1/4 racks. Proximity to Telehouse and Global Switch and length of time in use as a data centre means decent carrier list for site of this scale with 8 onsite networks.

IP House Docklands facility description

IP House’s Docklands data centre is a single story light industrial building on Lanrick Road and literally 500 metres walk from the Telehouse Docklands campus, across East India Dock Road.  It is adjacent to a small industrial estate known as the Blackwall Trading Estate. There is a large covered loading area at the front of the site which sets the building itself well back from the street, whilst associated cooling plant and generators (2 x 980kVA) are tucked around the side and rear of the building. All in all, its quite a tight fit!

The facility was originally opened unde Telia in the early 2000’s who had one time made quite a play for UK colocation services, but it then went through a number of owners who tried to make a success of the site.  Alphadex appeared to have taken over the site from Telia, underpinned by a large contract with Thus, who became then part of Cable and Wireless, but when C+W didn’t renew their contract in 2013 it didn’t take long for the business to enter administration owing just under £1m.

It was sold to Iracks Ltd in April 2014 but in less than a year Iracks Networks Ltd had appointed a liquidator to wind the business up and the lease on the premises was foregone.  Today IP House appears to be owned by family interests connected to the glazing company Tripleseal Group Ltd located next door and the facility has benefitted from significant investment under this settled ownership.

There are two data halls available on the single floor plate which is fitted out with a raised floor and contained cold-aisle pods, along with FM200 gas fire suppression.  APC racks used. Quarter and half rack options available. Eight onsite carriers including Zayo, Cogent and EuNetworks.
