LDex1, The Oxgate Centre, Staples Corner, London, NW2 7JA
Colo-X analysis
The LDeX1 data centre in North London is located adjacent to the junction of the M1 with London’s North Circular ring road. It is a typical data room build out within a light industrial property. The site was originally opened in 2012 but now benefits from LDeX’s recent investment. (The LDeX team were originally behind Manchester’s UKGrid prior to that company’s sale to Telecity). LDeX was acquired by iomart plc at the end of 2018 but seems to be remaining a fairly independent brand and operation under the Iomart umbrella.
Network choice is limited compared to central London data centres, but includes some competitive options including Level3, Cogent and Colt. Power, capacity and scope to grow are all key features. The first hall has one large client using about half of its 110 cabinets; the second hall is largely sold; the third is now available; and there is one more to come. Colo-X attended a client site visit in November 2012. All in all, a decent quality data centre at a competitive price point for the London market.
LDeX was acquired by iomart plc in December 2018 but continues to operate as a separate brand.
LDeX1 London facility description
London Data Exchange Ltd (LDeX) was a new operator in 2012 but who have an experienced team behind it. It is backed by the management team who founded and built Manchester-based colocation operator UKGrid prior to the company’s sale to Telecity in September 2011. The site is a former Tiscali data centre. Completely rebuilt from the inside out, LDeX1 at Staples Corner, North London is a new, highly secure facility offering over 22,000 sq ft of carrier-neutral colocation space across three or four data halls.
Due to its location, LDeX1 offer a range of Tier 1 and Tier 2 network providers. There is also direct access to a number of leading internet exchange points, cloud hubs, IP transit and bandwidth providers. PeeringDB list 14 networks – a reasonable set for a fairly small, independent colocation facility.
LDeX1 also offers facilities for the placement of satellites and wireless equipment. This is ideal for clients who are looking to deliver the likes of IPTV, streaming media or broadcast services.
Offering 48U 600mm x 1000mm footprint, True N+N Power and 32Amp Commandos to each rack as standard, LDeX1 deliver an inner-London data centre at outer-London pricing. Moving forward, a second data centre, LDeX2, is in the design phase. Once completed it will bring an additional 35,000 sq ft of carrier-neutral colocation to London.
