Pulsant, 10 Westwood Avenue, Tyseley, Birmingham, B11 3RZ
Colo-X analysis
Pulsant acquired both this and the slightly larger Fareham data centre from SCC in April 2025. This added around 6MW to Pulsant’s existing stock of 20MW across 12 other UK data centres, so quite a large acquisition. SCC and their clients are remaining in situ, but now as customers of Pulsant.
The data centre is built across five distinct data halls, with three currently in use offering just under 900 rack footprints. Two further data halls are able to support 300 racks pending fit-out. Standards are high to support SCC’s customers.
Pulsant are now focussing on a simplified product set of colocation, connectivity and cloud. This means clients can expect full inclusive packages of rack, network and support from quarter racks upwards.
Pulstant Birmingham WM1-5 data centre description
The Pulsant Birmingham data centre is located 3 miles south-east of central Birmingham (or 6 miles north-west on the A41 from Junctions of the M42) on the Cole Valley Business Park. While with its own car park and demise, there are numerous SCC buildings nearby.
The data centre is built around five main data halls on a single floor plate, with a large external plant yard for generators and chillers as well as goods inwards. All data halls feature raised floors, n+1 for generators, UPS and cooling.
Data halls 2 and 3 feature contained hot aisles with a cold wall flooding the room. Data hall 1 does not currently have any containment.
Data Halls 4 and 5 are built but not fully fitted-out yet, so lend themselves to different densities if required, and sole tenant use.
About Pulsant
Through a series of acquisitions, Pulsant now offer 14 data centres across the UK which they refer to as their PulsantEdge. These sites range in size from 200kW up to 4MW, and providing around 25MW now in total. As well as the two newly aquired SCC sites, larger locations include Edinburgh, Reading and Croydon. All sites are now connected by Pulsant’s network backbone.
The company has been backed by Antin Infrastructure Partners since 2021, with revenue of just over £100m in the year to December 2024, and staff of 300 (not including the SCC sites).
