The Pulsant Rotherham YH-1 South Yorkshire data centre was originally opened by Onyx in 2011 to offer about 100 racks in a data hall constructed on the ground floor of the high ceiling warehouse area, with 250 work place recovery seats provisioned on the first floor offices. Onyx was acquired by Pulsant in June 2016 and this site now forms one of a string of 12 data centres across the country, from Edinburgh down to Croydon, as Pulsant seek to reposition themselves as one of the UK’s “edge” operators.

Pulsant added further data centre capacity in October 2023 as part of a £3m investment, taking it up to 400kW.

Pulsant Rotherham YH-1 facility description

The Pulsant Rotherham YH-1 South Yorkshire data centre is located mid-way between Rotherham, Doncaster and Barnsley and some 13 miles north of Sheffield. The building is a light industrial warehouse of some 22,000 sq ft gross with two small data halls on the ground floor offering some 100 rack spaces and 250 work place recovery seats in the upstairs office area. In October 2023 Pulsant announced a £3m investment in new capacity, taking total IT load up to 400kW but there remains ample scope to build more data centre capacity if needed on the ground floor open warehouse slab area. With a single generator the site is Tier2 standard.

Pulsant is one of the UK regional colocation market leaders with 12 data centres offering some 25MW of capacity in total and the company is now making much of their focus on “edge” colocation. Their South Yorkshire site is amongst their smallest at present, but has ample scope for expansion if required. Besides colocation (rack and power) Pulsant offer both network and full suite of managed services.
