Colo-X analysis

This site attracted a lot of interest from locally based companies since it was opened in 1999 by Globix. The European interests of Globix were acquired by Telecity in 2006. However, the landlord declined to renew Telecity’s lease and in 2014 the site closed. This led to a surge in the Telecity churn rate, causing some concern amongst the company’s investors at that time. The Volta data centre, which is the nearest London data centre, has taken over the role as the most accessible central London data centre.

Facility description

The facility was originally developed at the height of the dotcom boom by US-based Globix, who somehow opened a very small data centre in what was really a completely inappropriate office building! Telecity acquired Globix’s European assets in 2006 (the year after the Telecity/Redbus merger).

The data centre itself was small and light on power, at 8Amps maximum per cabinet. This was acceptable by old standards, but is not much use today.
