Colo-X analysis

Because it opened 10 years after Telehouse North, and is only half the size, Telehouse East (though offering impressive carrier choice) is still second to Telehouse North in terms of popularity for those seeking a point of presence to interconnect with other networks. There are a handful of carriers/ISPs who are only in East, including Hurricane Electric and Bharti Airtel, which drives interest in the building. East is the third busiest site for LINX (London Internet Exchange).

While some areas in East are limited on power, several floors have been refurbished and offer dual A+B power per rack as standard and 2kW as standard, with some scope to offer more. Part-rack options such as quarter or half racks can also be sourced in all the Telehouse buildings and are often perfect for simple point of presence. Telehouse offer an excellent 24/7 support service.

Telehouse East, London facility description

Telehouse East is located next door to the original Telehouse building known as Telehouse North. The two buildings are some 50m apart and adjoined by footbridges from the central administrative building in the middle.

Telehouse East opened in September 2000, just after the peak of the dotcom boom and, at 60,000 sq ft, is about half the size of Telehouse North. While it doesn’t have the same number of installed clients as the North building, it is still a very well-connected facility and is also a LINX site (London Internet Exchange).

With the building being newer than North, the designers were able to make significant improvements to the riser space available, so cabling is certainly much easier than in North.

In 2009, Telehouse were able to take back the entire third floor from a single-tenant occupier. After refurbishment, they offered the space on a colocation basis to a new and improved standard of 2kW per cabinet via two fully diverse, A+B power feeds.

Data halls are spread over four floors: TFM40 and 41 are on the first floor, TFM50/51 is on the second, TFM60/61 is on the third and finally TFM70/71 is on the fourth.
