Colo-X analysis

Telehouse West was the first significant new Docklands colocation facility since Global Switch 2 opened next door in 2002. As a purpose-built data centre building, West offers high-quality colocation capacity, with power densities of 4kW per rack on average and more possible in certain areas. It was a welcome addition to the Telehouse Docklands campus when it opened.

In 2016 the West carrier list is growing; occupancy is fairly high now at around 80–90% and includes the fastest-growing LINX node in London. Customers tend to be more content-based than in the North building next door, so there are more servers and storage than routers and switches.

Open colocation rack space is still available, as well as a few dedicated suites which start at 3 racks upwards. Inevitably the focus will switch to Telehouse North 2 which has just opened in Q4 2016. But with a few key carriers such as TalkTalk now in West, interest is growing in this site.

Telehouse West facility description

Telehouse West is a purpose-built data centre building located within the secure Telehouse campus offering modern, high-quality colocation space across five floors of 10,000 sq ft each. Each floor offers a variety of both dedicated caged space and open rack colocation areas. The average power per rack is 4kW, but higher-density areas can offer 6kW. Riser space is huge and access easy with a massive goods lift for the larger items, making it very easy to roll full-height cabinets from delivery onto the data halls.

Having being operational for six years now, the directly available carrier list is now growing and the Telehouse LINX node is the fastest growing in London. Dark fibre connecting to Telehouse North and East next door is available.

Telehouse West also benefits from the highly secure campus nature of the Telehouse complex and 24×7 on-site support.
